The Death of David Foster Wallace was a disheartening footnote to FF 2012. I do not have anything particularly relevant or worthwhile to add: neither sappy personal narrative nor "oh mi god!!! i loved 'ASupposedlyFunThingIllNeverDoAgain...'" no sorry, none of that: all i can say is that he was one of my favorite writers and i poured out some Old Heaven Hill whiskey as soon as i heard the news. RIP..
Speaking of death, Terry Plumming, the Chicago-based nonsensically weirdo sometimenoise "outsider" CD-R label, said Audi 5000 this month. Sadly. Everything they ever put out is archived online & available for download. TINA was definitely the jump-off for me, eventhough it took me a while to "get into groove," as it were... The Mahjongg side-project Waterbabies has literally not left my 5-disc Compact Disk changer since i copped it in the winter of 2006. And the Cave CD-R is just absolute psyche-spazz bananas (i actually "boosted" this from the TP kiosk during Version>07...). Again, i am usually not one for maudlin personal narratives, but i am somewhat disappointed that Terry Plumming has been auf wiedersehened. But alas. You should download something. And listen. With an open mind...
2008 has been an absolutely shitty & uninspiring year music-wise. And while there are two more months left in this eighth double-zero millennial year, it's a pretty safe bet that nothing worth-while will emerge. I'd bet you an Italian sausage and beef combo, a two-liter of Vernon's soda and a joint that nothing awesome comes out for the rest of this year. And while this year has fucking sucked, there mos def has been some choices nuggets to dig up, so get yer 49er on:
Last Saturday I bought the "Third" album by Portishead for $2 at the Salvation Army here in town. Its really a great album. Why it took almost a decade an a half to get into this band is understandable i suppose. But yeah.
Oh yeah. I borrowed the Emeralds/Tusco Terror Christmas 2007 Tape from Bobby Charlie @ FF 2012 and i must say the B-side of the Emeralds side is nothing short of sensually masterful post-New Age dronemagik. I had intended to return it and listen to the other Emeralds tapes he had but he had an arguement w/ Kristin Calverse & dipped to Florida land. (peace to Harvey Peakar.../GO BROWNS!!!)
Aside from fiending for doughnuts, not much else has been going on, aside from the lazy procratinative unemployed ennui. I surf the INTERNET on a really old computer (Windows Me OS). Which is fine. However, downloading free music software becomes sometimes tenuous if not down-right impossible. Despite this. I like Mu.lab. It's like a stripped down-version of Ableton Live multi-tracking-wise, its free, the support rules (its the dude that made the software answering questions directly on a messageboard...) and it seems easy to use. It installed fine on my computer but i am having a few "issues" w/ it, issues i would not have if I were not on a dinosaur PC.
Tape OP came in the mail this week. Tape OP can be subscribed to for free, provided you supply an email address. I wish I had of subscribed when the Nick Collins interview came out but that is neither here nor there my friend. Yes. Tape OP.
Hopefully October will be productive and beautiful. The later is inevitable. Most assuredly. Fingers crossed on the former...
